Ingredients for Making Corn Tortillas

Cooking Corn Tortillas:

Step 1: Knead the dough.

Pour into a deep plate 2 cups corn flour and salt 1/2 teaspoon salt. Stir and pour in a thin stream there 1.5 cups of water. Knead the dough with a wooden spatula until all the lumps disappear and the mass is thick enough so that it can be shaped like a ball. If the dough feels dry, add a little more water.

Step 2: Prepare parchment paper.

From the parchment paper, cut two circles so that they fit in size to the bottom of the plate, with which you will form corn tortillas. Optimum paper size 10-12 cm in diameter.

Step 3: Form the dough.

Pinch a small piece from the corn flour dough with your hands and roll the ball. On a cutting board or tabletop, lay a circle cut out of parchment paper, put a ball of dough on top, cover it with a second sheet of parchment and, using a plate as a press, press.

As a result of such simple manipulations, you should get a flat cake with a diameter 8-10 cm, carefully, so as not to tear the dough, separate it from parchment paper, set it aside and proceed to the formation of the next. For beauty, you can use the knife to trim the edges and make the cakes almost perfectly round.

Step 4: Fry the corn tortillas.

Place a dry frying pan on the stove and heat it over high heat. When the pan is hot enough in your opinion, put a tortilla on it. If the dishes are sized, then fry a few corn tortillas once.
Cook on one side until blisters appear, approximately 1 minute, then flip over and continue to broil yet 40 seconds. Place the prepared corn cakes on a clean towel in a pile on top of each other and cover, so they will stay warm longer. You can serve.

Step 5: Serve the corn tortillas.

Serve ready-made corn tortillas warm, use them to create delicious snacks, for example, wrap meat fried with vegetables in them. You can also just put the cakes in a bread basket and put on the table.

Recipe Tips:

- If you are unable to carefully remove the cake from one sheet of parchment, do not be discouraged, place it with the dough down on a dry preheated pan with paper and wait 30 seconds, then remove the adhered sheet, leaving the corn cake in the pan. Continue to cook.

- Store raw dough for corn tortillas in the freezer.

- Put egg omelet on a hot cake and you will have a hearty and tasty breakfast.

- Cured corn cakes can be reheated with a frying pan, oven or microwave.
